ASUU Finally Reveals Date To Call Off Strike, Lectures To Start Immediately.
The federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have hold seven meetings since the beginning of the strike by ASUU,
in the bid to settle their differences with a conclusion. But this aim has not been achieved,
as the stipulated meeting which was supposed to hold on Friday, 4th December 2020, has been adjourned to next Wednesday 9th December.
ASUU embarked on their industrial action since March, which has now lasted for over Eight months.
Though the union has revealed that the ongoing industrial action will exceed next year 2021, in a bid to suspend the overdue strike,
the federal government has pleaded with the striking lecturers to return to the classroom after offering to pay the sum of 70 billion out of the 110 billion that was demanded by the striking lecturers.
In response to this, the union stated that until all salaries of the striking lecturers are been paid, they are not going to end the strike. And so the federal government promise to pay all lecturers salary that are due to them before 31st December 2020.
With this in mind, the Academic Staff Union of Universities has revealed that the ongoing strike will be called off in the first week of January 2021
as they frantically urged students to get ready to resume in all campuses starting from 3rd of January, 2021 as kickoff immediately.
What’s your take on this?
